Highland
Tier 3
Summary
Bottom Line – The beers are just fine, but the brewery is way more than that. It’s like a city park with frisbee golf, sand volleyball and a massive concert area. You could spend all day there.
Highland is absolutely massive. I have never seen a brewery that has so many space-occupying outdoor features. They have a concert stage with a huge lawn for people. There are multiple sand volleyball courts. There is a frisbee golf course…yes, you read that right. Not to mention tons of extra space. It’s more like a park then it is a brewery, which is why I suppose they call it “The Meadow”. If I lived there, we (including the kids) could probably spend all day there. Unfortunately, the beers were just ok. Not bad, still much better than a random 6’er at the grocery store, but just not as good as the other breweries we went to in Asheville. The menu was a good size, and there are plenty of food options scattered around, but they don’t hit on some of the more modern styles (sours and stouts, BA stuff, etc.) Everyone I talked to was very nice, so the service is good, the price point is fine, and they actually offer flights. There is a lot to like about a visit to Highland, but ultimately it lands in Tier 3 because I didn’t find any of the 6 beers I tried to be particularly interesting or notable.
