Summary

Bottom Line – More a farm-to-table restaurant than a brewery but still making good beers. Great concept to have a garden on the roof and using those ingredients in the food and beer.

Avling operates as more than just a brewery on the east side of the city. They are big on farm to table food and I think that might extend to their beer too. They have a garden on the roof which is pretty neat. The inside of the restaurant is very nice with a circular bar in the middle. They have some nice wooden tables outside, which is where we sat. They do have a flight available, but it is curated, so you can’t pick your own. The beer menu is a decent size but they definitely focus on lagers, sours, and ales. I had the flight plus another full pour and everything was good. I didn’t love that I couldn’t get a half pour of the sour. To me, if you aren’t going to allow customization of a flight, you should allow half pours of everything, even if it’s from a 12oz to a 6oz. It was pretty late when we got there, and they were definitely trying to close down. But, the server (who I learned was the garden manager) was very kind and friendly. I always appreciate that especially when closing time is upon us. Ultimately, I will probably go back on my next visit so I can try the food during a more prime time. The beers and location were good enough to merit a return.
